Senator
Guenther, a 45-year resident of Arizona, served in the Arizona State Senate from
1999-2003 and in the House of Representatives from 1986-1993. In his last
legislative term, Senator Guenther served as chairman of the Natural Resources,
Agriculture and Environment committee, vice-chairman of the Health committee and
chairman of the Health and Welfare subcommittee of the Appropriations committee.
He was named the 1988 Legislator of the Year by the National Council of State
Legislators and the 1992 Water Statesman of the Year by the Agri-business
Council. Senator Guenther has been the Arizona Director of the Colorado
River Water Users Association since 1992 and served as it’s president in 1998
and 1999. He was a member of the Arizona Game and Fish Commission from 1994-1999
and served as it’s chairman in 1998. Senator Guenther was also a member of the
Council of State Governments. A wildlife biologist by education, Senator Guenther has worked
as a biologist for both the Arizona Game and Fish Department and the U.S. Bureau
of Reclamation. Most recently, Senator Guenther was employed as Executive
Assistant for Special Affairs by the Wellton Mohawk Irrigation and Drainage
District. He and his wife Sharon have four children. |
